Lena Dunham does more talking in her Lenny Letter interview than her subject, Amy Schumer.

That’s the first thing one should note from her one-on-one sit down with the comedian. Second, is all the verbal diarrhea being spewed with each and every line of the interview.

On Friday, the Girls creator became the No.1 trending topic for an interview in which she talks to Schumer about feminism, her role in media, tramp stamps and how blasé the 2016 MET Gala apparently was. Funny.. everyone else seemed to have a ball.

Nonetheless, among the weird statements made in the interview, like “My ovary has basically exploded in my stomach twice, and I was pretty chill about it” and “I love you, you can cry near me” sarcastically in regards to two women being shot while watching Schumer’s Trainwreck film, there was one comment that put people particularly over the edge.

Dunham says: You and I were literally sitting across from each other at the Met Ball, and it was so surreal to get to do that. I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like, “That’s a marshmallow. That’s a child. That’s a dog.” It wasn’t mean — he just seemed confused. The vibe was very much like, “Do I want to fuck it? Is it wearing a … yep, it’s wearing a tuxedo. I’m going to go back to my cell phone.” It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, “This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.”

While it’s a nice idea that the highly successful New York Giants’ wide receiver was thinking about her, more than likely, he wasn’t. And furthermore, to project her insecurities on him —alluding that he was being rude— was incredibly elitist.

Like wildfire, Twitter called her out on the comment, and another statement about dancing on Michael B. Jordan that was later removed.

In response to the backlash, Lena sent out a couple tweets clarifying her statements. Unfortunately, they fell flat.

Problem with Lena’s whole brand is that she literally makes money off being a feminist. Sorry —let’s be clear— a white feminist. It’s her entire brand.

So everything she says and does will, and should, be scrutinized. It’s actually astonishing how unaware of this fact she is and how much she complains about it. For someone who knows the importance of having a voice, she often wastes the platform.

But as we all know, white privilege in any form, can be a helluva thing to get past.
