The protests on college campuses against racial bias are proving to be effective. Just days after the president of the University of Missouri resigned, Claremont McKenna College’s dean of students stepped down. The students at the institution started an on-campus protest and went on a hunger strike after it was discovered that Dean Mary Spellman sent a Latina student an email saying she would work to help students that didn’t fit the school’s mold. Although she apologized, the students weren’t having it. For months, they have asked for a more diverse faculty and more funding for students of color. Following the protests, Spellman decided to step down. “It’s a tough time to be a young person in the United States today, particularly a young person of color,” said David Menefee-Libey, a Pomona College politics professor. “Economic opportunities are constrained. Access to higher education is constrained. Interactions with public authorities are fraught, especially interactions with police.” Read more.
Secret Service Agent Arrested in Child Sting
A Secret Service officer who worked at the White House was arrested after it was discovered that he was sending nude photos of himself to a 14-year-old girl from Delaware. Officer Lee Robert Moore turned himself in to Maryland authorities after the charges were filed against him in the U.S. District Court for Delaware. “The Secret Service takes allegations of potential criminal activity extremely seriously,” said a Secret Service spokeswoman yesterday. “This incident was reported to our Office of Professional Responsibility on Friday, November 6th. On that same date, the employee’s security clearance was suspended and the employee was placed on administrative leave. All Secret Service issued equipment was retrieved and the employee’s access to all Secret Service facilities was terminated.” Read more.
Donald Trump on ISIS: “Bomb the Sh** Outta Them”
GOP Presidential Candidate Donald Trump is known for having no filter. During a speech on his campaign trail, he shared how he would address the ISIS issue. “Bomb the shit outta them,” said Trump. “I’d just bomb those suckers. I’d blow up the pipes, I’d blow up the refineries, I’d blow up every single inch, and there would be nothing left.” He made these remarks after reporters asked him to share what his self-proclaimed “secret plan” for handling ISIS would be.
