A leaked 911 call revealed the late poet ordered her staff to not resuscitate her in the event that she passed. A 911 dispatcher tried to talk a caregiver through the procedure on the unconscious Angelou, the caregiver later explained that would be against the late poet’s wishes.
In the background of the recording of the 911 call, an emergency dispatcher was heard talking about an interview Oprah Winfrey did last fall with the BBC. The conversation about Winfrey led to the dispatcher being suspended with pay.
