Durham is in the running for Southern Living’s “Tastiest Towns in the South.”

The magazine wants people to help name the best food destination in the South. Two North Carolina cities are in the running, Asheville and Durham.

“North Carolina’s Triangle has long been fertile ground for enjoying the region’s rich bounty,” said Southern Living Senior Editor Paula Disbrowe in a written release. “From Scratch Bakery to Watts Grocery, where much of the menu is raised, caught, smoked, pickled or cured within a two-hour radius, Durham is brimming with spots that passionately support local businesses,” Disbrowe added.

The top ten towns were picked by the magazine’s editors based on the following criteria:

  • Food as a cultural identity
  • Growth of a culinary-minded community
  • Diverse Cuisine at a variety of price points
  • Local, sustainable food practices
  • Hot chefs on the rise
  • Abundance of buzz-worthy food events

If you would like to vote for the “Tastiest Town,” click here. You can vote now until Feb. 28. By voting, you’ll also be entered to win $1,500.
