Sports announcer and ‘Dancing With The Stars’ host Erin Andrews was awarded $55 million in her highly publicized stalking case. She had asked for $75 million.
Andrews was suing both her stalker, Michael David Barrett and West End Hotel Partners, which operates the Marriott at Vanderbilt. Barrett admitted to filming a naked Andrews through the peephole in her hotel room after using a Marriott staff phone to find out her room number. Barrett then posted the video online. The video has allegedly been viewed more than 17 million times. Barrett was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.
The jury found both the stalker and the hotel responsible for the incident. Barrett is responsible for $28 million (which he doesn’t have) and the hotel is responsible for $26 million.
Andrews claimed emotional distress from the video.
