The governor of Maine is apologizing today after some comments he made about drug dealers with names like ‘D-Money’ who sell drugs in Maine and impregnate young, white girls.

In his apology, Governor Paul LePage said:

“I was going impromptu, and my brain didn’t catch up to my mouth. Instead of ‘Maine women,’ I said ‘white women.” He went on to say that Maine is 99% white.

LePage was discussing the state’s heroin problem when the comments were made. He did not identify the race of the drug dealers.
