Duke Energy is asking its customers to cut down on electricity usage during the cold snap. Customers should focus on reducing usage until 10 a.m. Duke Energy offered the following tips reduce the potential for power outages.

Duke Energy offered tips to help reduce usage:

*Turn off unnecessary lights.
*Postpone household chores that use of electricity.
*Unplug unused cell phone/tablet chargers.
*Reduce thermostat to the lowest comfortable setting when home, drop thermostat down a degree or two when leaving home
*Operate ceiling fans in a clockwise direction, which pushes warm air back down into the room.
*Leave your drapes or blinds open to allow the sun’s rays to warm the house.
