It’s been a week since a Staten Island grand jury decided not to convict the cop who killed Eric Garner, and racial tensions in the country still remain high. In a recent interview with BET, President Obama discussed race relations in America and what we need to do to move forward. The one-on-one with Jeff Johnson, titled “A Conversation with President Barack Obama,” is the President’s first televised interview since the Garner verdict was announced. “This country is at its best when everybody is being treated fairly. We have a history and a legacy of people not being treated fairly in all kinds of walks of life,” he said. “It is particularly important for people to feel like they’re being treated fairly by law enforcement and police, because the consequences when they’re not treated fairly can be deadly.” Read more.


Interview with Key Witness of Michael Brown Shooting Missing From Court Documents

Still shocked by the fact that Police Officer Darren Wilson was able to walk without any punishment after murdering Michael Brown, people are looking at the case from different angles; trying to make sense of what went wrong. After a review of court documents released by St. Louis County prosecutors, it was discovered that the transcript of a two-hour interview with Brown’s friend Dorian Johnson was not included. Johnson was a key witness to what took place that day, yet his interview with the FBI was not found in the 5,700 pages of documents according to the Associated Press. “If it’s not there, it’s not there,” Ed Magee, a spokesman for St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch, said. “I don’t know what was released.” Read more.


New Web Series Focuses on Women of Color in London

A new scripted web series delves into the lives of four women of color living in London. The series, which is called “Life of Hers,” documents the friendships of women of the African diaspora who are coming of age in the UK. The women struggle with the complexities of being of African descent in London. “The series is similar to the lives of many of us now in London who have parents from different places in Africa” said writer Samantha Chioma. “It looks at the complexities of the culture clash and being a Londoner.” Read more.
