On the weekends growing up in Kentucky, I would listen to Casey Kasem’s Top 40 countdown religiously. The legendary icon’s career spans over 50 years in radio, television, voice overs and acting, Kasem provided the familiar voice of “Shaggy” in the Scooby-Doo television show to name a few. As music historian, Kasem would inform listeners to the finite detail everything about an artist and their music, and when he signed off his American Top 40 show, he would close with theses words, “Keep your feet on the ground and reach for the stars.”
