Hurricane Sandy has prompted emergency operations, flights to be canceled and thousands to be evacuated as it threatens the East Coast. The hurricane could disrupt life in the Northeast for days. Sandy is likely to be one of those rare tropical storms that might produce snow in the Mid-Atlantic region, southwest Virginia and West Virgina.
