According to New York Magazine, the war women of color with natural hair and the TSA is over, we think. I guess we’ll have to see. The TSA has decided to stop targeting women of color and their big, natural hair. After complaints from the ACLU, the TSA has decided to retrain it’s officers.

According to an article in New York Magazine: Per the agreement, the agency will provide trainings across the country with an emphasis on hair pat-downs of black female travelers. TSA has also agreed to specifically track hair pat-down complaints filed by black women at all airports they oversee to determine whether discriminatory practices are still occurring.

Solange Knowles took to Twitter in 2012 to complain about the searching of her Afro. MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry has also been vocal about hair searches by TSA. She wrote an open letter to the head of the TSA and stated: “if your $170,000 machine can see under my clothes, but can’t figure out I’m not hiding a bomb in my braids, maybe it’s time to recalibrate the machine.”
