Lionel Richie will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 BET Awards Sunday, June 29 at 8 p.m. from Nokia Theatre in L.A. hosted by Chris Rock. The 64-year-old singer-songwriter will also perform at the ceremony. Richie was instrumental in forming the group The Commodore’s, with dance hits likes “Machine Gun” and “Brick House.” Over the year’s Richie wanted to go in a different direction writing more romantic, easy-listening ballads such as “Easy”, “Three Times a Lady”, “Still”, and “Sail On,” he later left the group to pursue a solo career.
