Sasheer Zamata

It’s been at least 6 years, since an African-American women has appeared as a cast member on SNL. Lack of diversity and public outcry put the suits on notice to find a new cast member. Sasheer Zamata, a standup, improviser, actress, and writer out of New York’s UCB Theatre, was one of two dozen SNL hopefuls who tried out for the show last month. She becomes the first black female SNL cast member since Maya Rudolph. She will make her debut Jan. 18, when Drake hosts.

Congrats!

Check out some of her work.

Zamata portrays Beyonce as a new mom breastfeeding her newborn while listening to the beat of “Run the World (Girls).”
