Where you listening this morning on the TJMS when CNN anchor Don Lemon talked about young artist stepping up and being more socially conscious? Becoming the modern-day Harry Belafonte’s, the Lena Horne’s.

John Legend is one of several artist that fits the bill. Not only does music peak his interest but american politics and black social issues fill his plate. He’s been a vocal supporter of Obama, contributing to will.i.am’s 2008 campaign video Yes We Can and performing at benefit concerts.

On the issues of Syria, the Grammy award-winning artist has said that the US faces a “very difficult decision” over whether to get involved in the Syrian humanitarian crisis. He says, “I am not anti-war in general. I am just anti-wars that I think are not a good idea.”

Legend went on to say that he is disappointed that more popular artists are not addressing social issues in their music. “You hear nothing on the radio that’s the least bit socially conscious or aware, and I think artists are doing that because they don’t feel like the fans want to hear it.”

Legend’s latest album “Love in the Future” was recently released. You can catch the “Made to Love” Tour October 31 at DPAC with Tamar Braxton.
