Durham Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric J. Becoats today announced on Thursday all but one of Durham’s 12 public high schools achieved a graduation rate of 80 percent or higher in 2013 – with three schools graduating 100 percent of their students. The 2013 graduation cohort rate for Durham Public Schools (DPS) reached just under 80 percent for the first time since the state began calculations seven years ago – and is just below the statewide rate of 83 percent.

Rounded up, this represents a 10-point increase in graduation rates for Durham in only four years.

The percent of white students, black students, students of two or more races and those with limited English proficiency who graduated topped the state percentages in those subgroups. Additionally, DPS rates rose since last year in all of the following categories: males, females, blacks, Hispanics, two or more races, economically disadvantaged, limited English proficiency and students with disabilities [see attached charts].
