President Barack Obama has strategically strayed away from conversations particular to any one ethnic group. But as the nation’s first African-American president, by default, he is often asked about plans geared toward the Black community.
In a recent interview with Black Enterprise POTUS reiterates that he is not “the president of Black America.”
“I am the president of the United States of America,” he said.
The president’s words came in response to criticism that his administration has not supported Black businesses. “My general view has been consistent throughout, which is that I want all businesses to succeed,” he said. “I want all Americans to have opportunity.”
The president also defended existing programs to help Black businesses. “I’ll put my track record up against anybody in terms of us putting in place broad-based programs that ultimately had a huge benefit for African-American businesses,” he said.
