3 Women Shot During Fayetteville Carjacking Attempts; Suspect in Custody
Three women were shot during a series of shootings and attempted carjackings in Fayetteville and Cumberland County Sunday morning, according to authorities.
A suspect was later taken into custody as investigators worked to determine exactly what led to the string of incidents.
The first shooting was reported around 7 a.m. in the 700 block of Messenger Street, where Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call.
Deputies found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local medical facility and was reported to be in stable condition.
The shooting occurred outside the Fayetteville Police Department’s jurisdiction.
Several minutes later, Fayetteville police responded to the Hardee’s parking lot in the 6300 block of Ramsey Street following a report of an attempted carjacking and shooting. Officers found another woman who had been shot.
A third incident was reported shortly afterward at the Food Lion parking lot in the 900 block of McArthur Road. Police said the incident also involved an attempted carjacking and a shooting, with another woman found suffering from a gunshot wound.
The suspect fled from both Fayetteville locations before officers arrived, according to police.
Investigators with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Crime Information Center, along with information provided by witnesses, helped officers locate the suspect. Authorities confirmed the suspect was taken into custody and that the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case.
The two women shot during the Fayetteville incidents were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and were reported to be in stable condition. Information on the condition of the first victim was also described as stable following treatment.
Police maintained a heavy presence at the Ramsey Street and McArthur Road locations as detectives investigated the shootings and attempted carjackings. Some areas were temporarily shut down while evidence was collected.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to release additional information as the case develops.
