Who remembers the government surplus food program? The Department of Agriculture announced it will spend $20 million on 11 million pounds of cheese from private inventories, and then give it to food banks and pantries across the U.S. My grandmother used to get blocks of cheese from the government when I was a child, she would make everything from scratch including her world-famous grilled cheese sandwiches, and macaroni and cheese casserole.
