Cold season is gearing up, and people suffering from coughs have smeared Vicks VapoRub on their feet instead of chests. Is is a hoax or is there some truth to this?

The peculiar application of the popular chest rub is being encouraged online through Facebook and internet forums. However, Procter and Gamble, the producers of Vicks VapoRub states, ‘It is not in line with what the product is for so we would not endorse it being used in this way.’

Personally, I haven’t tried this procedure, but I’ve put the ointment on my chest and throat, wrapped up with a couple of old t-shirts and towels to sweat out the cold and cough.

Have you tried this? Does it actually work? Anything else helps a cough?
