According to reports, Nigerian military officials have rescued 178 people who were kidnapped by the Boko Haram Islamist militant group. The military released a statement on Sunday saying that 101 of those individuals, who were saved in northern Borno state, are women, and 67 are children. A Boko Haram commander was captured and several camps were reportedly dismantled. No word on whether any of those rescued were girls abducted from a school in Chibok last spring. More than 200 of those girls still remain missing. Boko Haram has killed over 5,000 Nigerian people since 2014. Read more.


Snoop Dogg Stopped in Italy Airport

California-bred rapper Snoop Dogg found himself in trouble with European authorities yet again. He was stopped at the Lamezia Terme airport in Calabria by Italian police on Saturday traveling with $422,000 in cash, which is above the amount that can be transported through European borders. Half of the money was seized due to Italian anti-money laundering codes. Less than a week ago, Snoop was stopped in Sweden after it was suspected that he used drugs after a concert not far from Stockholm. Read more.


Legionnaires’ Disease Kills 4 in NYC

Legionnaires’ disease, an illness that has spread throughout certain parts of New York City over the past few weeks, has claimed the lives of four New Yorkers. According to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, there have been 71 cases reported since mid-July. “We are conducting a swift investigation to determine the source of the outbreak and prevent future cases. I urge anyone with symptoms to seek medical attention right away,” said Dr. Mary Bassett, commissioner of the health department. “The New York City water supply does not pose a risk, so people should continue to feel confident in drinking tap water to stay cool during this period of hot weather.” The four people who died were reportedly older adults with other medical issues. Pennsylvania Doctor Investigated for Killing Lion

Minnesota dentist Walter James Palmer found himself at the center of controversy after killing Cecil the Lion, one of Africa’s most famous animals. Now a Murrysville, Pa.-based physician is being investigated for his involvement in the killing of another African lion. According to Zimbabwean officials, 68-year-old Dr. Jan Seski reportedly killed a lion during a bow and arrow murder hunt. There have been several photos of him circulated online. Read more.
