Charlotte, North Carolina’s own Anthony Hamilton it the national music stage in the early 2000’s, but the Charlotte born father of six boys was no stranger to music. Hamilton started singing in his church choir at age 10. He sang in his high school choir and in 1993 he headed to New York City to make a living at his gift. He hustled hard in the Big Apple, co-writing songs and singing back up for artists like Donell Jones and D’Angelo. This work led him to a collaboration with the Nappy Roots on the song Po Folks. The Grammy-nominated song was released a year before Hamilton released his platinum-selling debut album, Comin From Where I’m From.

Hamilton is known for his distinctive, soulful voice.
