Several member of the African-American business community in the Research Triangle have contributed funds to enable middle and high school students to experience the critically acclaimed film, “SELMA” for free at participating theaters while supplies last. Twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) has been raised to send at least 2,000 interested students to the important film.

Seventh, Eighth or Ninth grade students wishing to take part in this special experience need only to present a valid student ID or a report card at any of the participating local theaters across the Research Triangle, beginning Wednesday, January 21st and continuing while tickets last.

  • The four participating theaters in the Research Triangle Area are
    • AMC Southpoint, Durham
    • Regal Movies@Timberlyne, Chapel Hill
    • Regal Crossroads, Cary
    • Regal North Hills Stadium, Raleigh

This project was inspired by the very successful effort of 27 African-American business leaders in New York City to send 27,000 middle school students to see the movie Selma. The response has been overwhelming with over 60,000 NYC students responding to the offer of 27,000 free tickets.

Due to the generous contributions by so many of the country’s most prominent African-American business leaders in over 25 cities including Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New Orleans and Atlanta, more than 275,000 middle and high school students across the U.S. will experience this special film for free at participating theaters.
