After years of releasing his music independently, Prince now owns the rights to the music he recorded on Warner Bros. The two parties went through bitter disputes and battles for years, it was announced Friday Warner Bros had finally reached an agreement with the music icon. Prince was signed to the label from 1978 to the mid-1990s, releasing “Purple Rain,” ”1999″ and “Around the World in a Day.”

The announcement comes several months before the 30th anniversary of Prince’s soundtrack album, “Purple Rain,” which would be the first record to get the deluxe reissue treatment, with the other albums to follow.

Prince also announced that a new studio album is “on the way.” Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
