Dr. Jessica Shepherd is part of a growing wave of gynecologists who also treat men. Just last year, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology issued a statement that gynecologists were permitted to diagnose and treat men for sexually transmitted diseases and for anal cancer, reversing an earlier mandate that said no.
While board certification is not required to be a doctor, most patients are taught to seek out medical practitioners who are board-certified so that distinction was welcomed. Many gynecologists were already treating male patients, but risked losing their board certification.
