We’ve all done it. We’ve taken a picture of ourselves in our car, home, at work or in a public place and sent it to someone or posted it online. It’s called a “selfie.” And according to the Oxford English Dictionary, it has become the word of the year.
Use of “selfie,” to mean a self-portrait typically snapped with a smartphone and shared over social networks, has risen 17,000% in frequency over the past 12 months, Oxford Dictionaries said. The word “twerk” was also in the running, but didn’t prove to be nearly as popular.
