It’s official! Mariah Carey will judge the 13th season of American Idol.
After a week of speculation, Carey called in to the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills, telling the crowded room, “I am so excited to be joining Idol, reports People. “I wish I could’ve been there to tell you,” she continued, “but I think you know this all kind of just happened real quickly, so I can’t wait to get started in a couple months… I will see you January!”
Today’s news is no shocker since Carey’s name has been tossed around as a replacement for Jennifer Lopez, who recently quit. There’s no word on who will replace rocker Steven Tyler, who also left the show after two seasons. Fox Entertainment president, Kevin Reilly, had no comment on whether Carey’s longtime friend and co-manager, Randy Jackson, will remain on the popular competition show.
