Yesterday, George Zimmerman’s defense team released a video of the shooter reenacting his scuffle with the late Trayvon Martin. The video takes place the day after the February 26 fatal shooting, according to the Associated Press.
Zimmerman appears on camera with several bandages on the back of his head and scarring on his face.
During his reenactment, Zimmerman says Martin approached him as he began searching for his cell phone. “‘You got a problem now,'” Zimmerman claims Martin said just before punching him in the face. “I think I stumbled and I fell down. He pushed me down. Somehow he got on top of me,” Zimmerman followed up. “That’s when I started screaming for help.”
Martin allegedly began slamming Zimmerman’s head against the pavement. “It felt like my head was going to explode,” said Zimmerman to the investigator.
While scuffling with the unarmed teenager, Zimmerman says Martin caught a glimpse of his firearm and went to reach for it. That’s when Zimmerman shot and killed Martin, who was returning home from a trip from a local store.
In related news, Sanford city manager Norton Bonaparte fired police chief Bill Lee Wednesday as a result of public criticism in the initial handling of the case. Lee took a leave of absence and later offered to resign from his post, according to ABC. He’s now “permanently relived of duty,” said Bonaparte. “After much thoughtful discussion and deep consideration from the issues facing the city of Sandford, I have determined the police chief needs to have the trust and respect of the elected officials and the confidence of the entire community.”
Zimmerman remains in jail and is charged with second-degree murder. He pleads not guilty.
