A tribute to the life and artwork of Ruth Russell Williams was held Saturday at the Carolina Theater. The art show also featured original work by C’Omega Barnes, Vandorn Hinnant, Willie Nash, Harry Davis, Marilyn Griffin, Derrick “Benetez” Bryant, Kathy Morgan, all influenced by the self-taught folk artist. Rick Russell also displayed collectible items from Ruth Russell Williams Enterprises. The evening featured an appearance from the the Mt.Gilead Baptist Youth Choir, jazz pianist Luke Lucas, contemporary gospel vocalist Johnnie Foster, K’Dron the Soul Singer, plus spoken word artist, poetess and broadcaster Val Jones. The perfect finale, the wonderful and powerful voices of The Harlem Gospel Choir. They had the audience were on their feet, clapping, dancing and singing. It was a wonderful evening.
