Spurs Announcer Fired Amid Cheating Scandal With Player’s Sister

The San Antonio Spurs are dealing with a messy off-court headline after play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey was reportedly let go amid allegations that he cheated on his longtime girlfriend with the sister of former Spurs player Lindy Waters III. According to TMZ and Front Office Sports, the situation became public after posts appeared on Tobey’s Instagram account accusing him of having an affair with Loren Waters. The posts quickly spread across NBA social media, turning what may have started as a private relationship into a very public scandal.

The viral posts were reportedly made from Tobey’s own Instagram account, but SFGATE reported that Tobey’s ex-girlfriend later said he was the person behind them. One of the posts accused Tobey of cheating on his girlfriend of six years with Loren Waters, directly naming her in the message. The posts were eventually deleted, and Tobey’s social media accounts have since been made private or inactive, according to multiple reports.

As of now, there are still important pieces that remain unclear. Neither Tobey, Loren Waters, Lindy Waters III, nor the Spurs have issued a full public statement laying out their version of events. The reporting so far points to the social media accusations as the spark, but it has not been publicly confirmed whether the Spurs conducted an internal review, whether any team policy was cited or whether Tobey’s alleged actions directly violated a clause in his deal. That is why the word “alleged” matters here, even with the firing being widely reported.

For now, what we know is this: Tobey’s reported exit comes after a private cheating allegation exploded online, involved the sister of a player connected to the franchise, and created a public relations problem the Spurs apparently chose to move on from quickly.
