If you were one of the people who paid to see legendary comedian Dick Gregory at The Comedy Zone at 10pm on Saturday night in Clayton, you walked away disappointed.
According to The Carolinian, the performer had already performed for three of his four sold out shows at the The Comedy Zone when an owner told him he wouldn’t be paid for the 10pm show on Saturday.
The newspaper went on to report that Gregory’s manager took the stage and emotionally told attendees that Mr. Gregory wasn’t going to be paid by the club, despite selling out four shows and making a promotional appearance at Mr. Wonderful’s Chicken & Waffles, also owned by one of the comedy club’s owners.
The Carolinian states that Gregory did decide to stay at the club, in the parking lot, and take pictures with people who were in attendance. The paper also states that most attendees were upset by the treatment Gregory received.
