Looking for something fun to do with the family this weekend? Here are some ideas that work perfectly for the season.

Raleigh Winterfest – This annual event kicks off from 12 noon to 8pm on Saturday, December 3rd on Fayetteville Street in Raleigh. Check out Santa’s Village, a Gingerbread house competition, food trucks, music and the Ice Raleigh Skating Rink. The event concludes with the lighting of the Christmas tree at City Plaza.

Durham’s Holiday Funfest – Durham’s free festival is at the Durham County Stadium on Saturday, December 3rd from noon to 4pm, rain or shine. There will be a meet and greet with Santa, sledding (sleds will be provided,) arts and crafts, face painting, a bounce house s’mores and holiday treats will be available for purchase.

Northgate Mall – Northgate Mall in Durham will offer free ornament decorating with the Durham Arts Council on Saturday, December 3rd and 17th from 11am to 1pm in Suite 132.

100 Men In Black – The group’s concert will be Sunday, December 4th at King’s Park International Church in Durham. The show starts at 5pm. Get ticket information here.

Quail Ridge Books – This Raleigh book store (which recently moved to North Hills Mall) will offer a holiday program with a costumed Grinch. There will be a reading of the holiday classic along with singing and other activities. This event is best for kids 3 and up.

Wake Forest – The town of Wake Forest will hold it’s Christmas tree lighting on Friday, December 2nd from 6-8:30 at Centenneal Plaza. Santa will be present from free pictures with a limited number of kids from 6:45-8:30pm.  A ticket with a time reservation is required to visit with Santa. Time tickets will be distributed in the town hall lobby beginning at 5:30 pm. Once you have your time ticket with your time reservation, feel free to enjoy all the festivities and return to the picture line at the time indicated on your ticket.

Historic Oak View County Park – The park’s annual Sleigh Rides and Cider is Saturday, December 3rd from 5pm to 7:30pm at Wake County Park. Get ready for hot apple cider, Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides and music. And it’s all free.
