Here we go again.
Pop star Ed Sheeran is being sued for stealing parts of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. The suit was filed by the heirs of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the hit song.
The Townsend family says that Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, which won a Grammy, borrows “harmonic progressions, and melodic and rhythmic elements central to Let’s Get It On,” according to Rolling Stone. Sheeran was sued earlier this year for stealing another song.
The family of Marvin Gaye is not involved in this suit, but they did win $7.4 million after suing Robin Thicke and Pharrell for copying Got To Give It Up on the hit record Blurred Lines.
Check out a mashup of the two songs and let us know below if you think there is similarity. Here, Sheeran mashes the two songs himself at a live concert:
These tweets were posted before the lawsuit was filed. Clearly, some people already thought Sheeran ripped off the Gaye hit.
