At least 50 people are dead and 53 injured in the worst mass shooting in American history at a club in Orlando, Florida.
The suspect, Omar Mateen, exchanged gunfire with an officer working at the club known as Pulse around 2 a.m., with more than 100 people inside. The gunman then went back inside and took hostages.
A bouncer knocked down a partition between the club area, in an area in the back allowing some people to then escape through the back of the club.
According to officials, Mateen was armed with an assault rifle, handgun and some sort of device. Approximately 5 a.m., the SWAT team made the decision to rescue the hostages and the shooter was killed in a gunfight with those officers.
The FBI had investigated Mateen for possible ties to Islamic extremism, but didn’t find evidence to charge him with anything.
