After causing a stir for attempting to auction off the firearm used to kill Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman is still determined to sell the gun. According to reports, Zimmerman will repost the gun on an auction site for the third time. When he first put the firearm on the auction block, he priced the gun at $5,000. After he posted the gun, fake bids caused the price to rise to $66 million. He initially posted the firearm on Gun Broker, but has now moved it over to the United Gun Group. According to Zimmerman, the gun will be back on the auction block by 9 a.m. on Monday. The starting bid for the firearm will be $100,000. “Unless the law has been violated, it is the intention of United Gun Group to allow its members to use any of the available features,” said the United Gun Group in a statement. “We will not act like Facebook and dictate to our members. What is lawful in the real world will be lawful on [United Gun Group].” Zimmerman said he would use the money to “fight (Black Lives Matter) violence against law enforcement officers.” He also said the gun was used to “end the brutal attack from Travyon Martin.” Read more.

Environmental racism is running rampant in Maryland and residents are taking action. Locals from Brandywine have filed a civil lawsuit against the state following its decision to build a gas plant in the community. The gas plant will be the fifth plant built within 13 miles of the city. There are two plants that are up and running now and two more planned to be built. “Brandywine seems to be getting more than its share of heavy industry and power generating uses,” said Fred Tutman, CEO of Patuxent Riverkeeper. “National experience teaches us that projects like high-polluting power plants typically go to areas with the least political power and the most people of color—and also in neighborhoods where the clean air, water and open space are most at risk. It is time for honest conversation about the future of Brandywine and its residential population with respect to fairness, equity and self-determination.” Brandywine is 72 percent Black. Research shows that communities of color have a 38 percent higher rate of exposure to nitrogen dioxide than White communities. Read more.
