Tracee Ellis Ross

Ross, hosting solo this year due to Regina King’s acting/directing schedule, opened the show with a medley of musical performances from different eras, including a tribute to her mother, the divine Diana Ross. Ross pulled it off with her usual humor and added herself to the pantheon of classic BET show openers.

Black Girls Rock The Future

One of the highlights of Black Girls Rock! every year is its acknowledgment of the achievements of young women who will be among the game changers of the future. From 11-year-old Marley Dias, founder of #1000blackgirlbooks who just wanted to see herself in the books she was reading to actresses Yara Shahidi and Masai Martin, to young women business owners and fashion designers, the rocking Black girls of the future are always a high point in the show.
