A New York USPS worker was arrested for a hate crime Tuesday after he spit on two Muslim women and threatened to burn their place of worship down, The New York Daily News reports.
A 30-year-old woman was pushing a stroller in a Brooklyn neighborhood with her sister when they bumped into Dainton Coley. The women claimed Coley, 34, made anti-Muslim comments by using the Jamaican slur, “You bumbaclot Muslim.” He also said, “I’m going to burn your Muslim temple down.” The two women were wearing hijabs.
The terrorization didn’t stop there. After the women went into a grocery store to escape the man, he followed them inside and continued his rant, expanding it to a store clerk who tried to dissolve the situation. After he was called crazy, he stated he wasn’t because he worked at the post office– a move that helped police track him down.
The New York Daily News reports:
Members of the Postal Police helped cops identify Coley, who worked at an Atlantic Ave. post office.
Back in April, cops showed up at his Canarsie home and treated him as an emotionally disturbed person after he began drinking heavily and claimed to hear voices, police sources said.
He has been charged with aggravated harassment, menacing, and acting in a manner injurious to a child for having the tirade in front of an infant. Coley was reportedly awaiting arraignment late Tuesday on his charges. The U.S. Postal Service hasn’t commented on the incident.
