Update: According to WRAL.com–“The father of two Muslim women killed in a triple shooting at a condominium near the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said Wednesday that the suspected gunman hated his daughter and son-in-law for who they were and how they lived, and he believes their deaths are hate crimes.”

Police are speculating that an ongoing dispute over parking led 46-year-old Craig Stephen Hicks to allegedly murder 3 students in Chapel Hill last night. Hicks has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, his wife, Yusor Mohammad, 21, and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19.

All three victims were shot in the head. There have been concerns that the shootings were motivated by the religion of the three Muslim victims.

Hicks turned himself into police after the shooting.

The two women killed were from Raleigh and graduates of Athens Drive High School.

Some people have showed outrage on social media when it comes to the coverage of this senseless murder. Some have pointed out that assailants are portrayed as “terrorists” in the news when they are Muslim, but when Muslims are killed, the perpetrators are not seen as terrorists.
