BREAKING NEWS: Following precautionary testing, the Ebola virus was not detected in a patient who had a low-grade fever according to the Richmond City Health District.

Richmond City Health District Director, Dr. Donald Stern releases the following information:

A patient visiting the U.S. from West Africa was seen at Crossover Healthcare Ministry on Monday, October 13, 2014, for a condition unrelated to Ebola.

·         Since the patient had a travel history and a low-grade fever, Crossover followed their infectious disease protocol; placed the patient in isolation, and contacted the Richmond City Health District – Virginia Department of Health.

·         Following conversations with the Virginia Department of Health State Epidemiologist, and they with the CDC, it was determined that the patient did not satisfy all the clinical criteria for Ebola, yet due to the patient’s travel history and low-grade fever, it was determined reasonable to recommend further evaluation.

·         The patient was seen at a local emergency department and admitted to the hospital. Clinical work-up included Ebola testing that was approved by the CDC.

·         Ebola testing is now complete and Ebola virus was not detected. Test results will be confirmed by the CDC.

Richmond medical clinic has confirmed the report it is evaluating a patient who may have come in contact with the Ebola virus. Officials with CrossOver Ministry on Cowardin Avenue in Richmond, Virginia say the patient traveled to West Africa recently.
