- Each year, hundreds of City and County government employees, downtown businesses and residents gather for the City-County Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Program to reflect on the ideals of Dr. King and to remember his powerful legacy.
- Durham City and County Governments have scheduled the 9th Annual City-County Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Program on Wednesday, January 15, 2014.
- The keynote speaker for the event is Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery, Dean of Duke Chapel and an Associate Professor of the Practice of Homiletics at Duke Divinity School.
- The event is free and open to the public and will feature the City-County Martin Luther King, Jr. Mass Choir.
