Funk pioneer George Clinton is celebrating his 84th birthday on Tuesday, July 22.
Many know Clinton as a musician in the band Parliament-Funkadelic and his staple in Afro-futurism. But another thing that Dr. Funkenstein is known for is his eclectic, animated and vibrant style. Not only with music, but his fashion.
Clinton has always had a passion for fashion design and took off with designing clothes not long after forming P-Funk. In 2018, he joined forces with Adidas Originals and Sneakersnuff to create two “Atomic Dog” inspired sneakers.
Clinton told Vogue in 2018, “When they heard about the partnership with Adidas and Sneakersnstuff, my grandkids thought I was the coolest grandfather. Then they saw them, and, well, it didn’t take much for all of us to fall in love with them.”
In honor of the legend’s birthday, we’re highlighting several of his iconic looks through the years.
