Police closed downtown Raleigh streets and asked about 160 people to evacuate buildings along Martin Luther King Jr. after a gas leak on Shaw University’s campus.
Police closed Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, between South Wilmington and South Blount streets, and were diverting traffic on multiple streets in the area.
Shaw University asked all its employees to leave, and people were evacuated from Raleigh Memorial Auditorium and other buildings. The area was also closed to pedestrians.
