Get ready, Durham! Book Harvest’s 5th Annual Summer Block Party is coming to town this Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. From 1 PM to 4 PM, families from across the area are invited to enjoy a day full of excitement, connection, and opportunities to support children’s literacy—something that directly impacts our local community in endless ways.

Bria Davenport, the Events & Development Manager for Book Harvest, joined us today to discuss the Block Party. Her passion for fostering literacy and creating memorable moments for families is at the heart of what makes this block party so special. “It’s all about making books accessible for children,” Bria shares, emphasizing that the event will distribute over 11,000 free books to kids, from infants to high school students.

For families, this is more than just a chance to pick up some new books. The block party is packed with fun activities, including fairy hair, a magician, and live poetry readings. Over 40 community organizations will host interactive booths offering giveaways and valuable resources. For younger attendees, the fire truck and library tech exhibits are sure to be a hit. Gates open promptly at 1 PM, but you’re encouraged to arrive early—this event is not one to miss!

Year-round, Book Harvest plays a pivotal role in our community. Through programs like “Books on Break,” they provide children with free books to maintain their learning throughout the summer. Their Family Space on University Drive also offers ongoing story times and a welcoming environment where families can access books all year long.
