Fast-food prices have surged by nearly 50% in the past decade, making dining out feel more like a splurge than a bargain.
Preply, a language-learning app, analyzed over 57,000 Google reviews of over 10,000 restaurants in the top 50 US cities, focusing on the frequency of terms like “pricey,” “expensive,” “overpriced,” and “rip-off” to identify overcharged and underdelivered establishments.
According to a recent study, Shake Shack is the most overpriced fast-food chain in the country, with customers complaining about high prices. This comes after two price hikes in 2024.
The price of a single ShackBurger, or hamburger, varies by area and usually ranges from $6.99 to $7.99. Additionally, adding fries to your meal will cost around $4.49, making your total at least $11.48.
The chain justifies its prices by using high-quality, fresh ingredients and making each item to order. Besides, the premium ingredients, Shake Shack will soon be available on Delta flights.
Other fast-food chains like Five Guys and Carl’s Jr. also made the list of most overpriced restaurants, with burgers costing between $6 and $13.
