Ahead of the film’s November 22 release, the Oscar winning actor has been doing his fair share of press to promote the film, but his latest reveal may be his biggest yet: There is a role being written specifically for him by writer/director Ryan Coogler in the upcoming third installment of the Black Panther franchise.

“I played Othello at 22, I’m now going to play it at 70,” said while discussing his past and future film credits. “After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.”

One of Marvel’s biggest franchise hits, the original Black Panther film debuted in 2018 to massive financial and critical success, taking home a whopping $1.3 billion in international box office sales.

Sadly, Boseman’s passing in August of 2020 threatened the future of additional installments, but in 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released and was another win moviegoers.

While there’s no official date for Black Panther 3, news of Washington’s addition to the cast is sure to wet the appetites of fans hungry new adventures from MCU’s wealthiest hidden world.
