An argument following Shaw University’s homecoming game resulted in gunfire, leaving one man in critical condition.

WRAL reports that the shooting occurred around 12:40 am on Sunday, November 3. Raleigh police said a man was shot on Shaw’s campus in the 700 block of Person Street. The victim was attending a homecoming event at the time of the shooting.

The Raleigh-based HBCU emailed students Sunday morning, informing them of the incident. It read in part:

We wanted to inform you about an unfortunate incident that occurred on campus last night. To ensure everyone’s safety, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the pre-dawn party that was scheduled to take place. However, students gathered in the Dimple parking lot and a verbal altercation occurred in the early morning hours. That resulted in someone being shot.

This marks the 2nd shooting on an NC college campus in less than two weeks. On October 26, a pair of shootings occurred during the homecoming festivities at North Carolina Central University, the second of which left four people with non-life-threatening injuries.

Raleigh police said there is no suspect in the shooting at Shaw at this time. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 919-996-1193 or p3tips.com/89 for anonymous reporting. Students with information can contact Shaw’s Campus Police at 919-546-8249.
