North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, along with law enforcement agencies, is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Ramone Alston, the inmate who escaped custody this week in Hillsborough.
Alston, 30, escaped from state corrections officers on Tuesday while attending a medical appointment in Hillsborough, a town about 14 miles west of Durham. He was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, having been convicted in 2015 for the fatal shooting of a one-year-old child.
Described as a 5-foot-11-inch, 230-pound Black male with long dreadlocks, Alston remains at large. Governor Cooper emphasized the collaborative efforts of state, federal, and local law enforcement in locating and apprehending him.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction tipline at 919-324-1082.
