The Better Business Bureau along with Coastal Credit Union, are hosting a FREE ‘Secure Your ID Day’ Electronics Recycling & Document Shredding Event at the Coastal Headquarters, at 1000 St. Albans Dr., Saturday, Oct.27 from 8am to noon, or until the trucks are full. It’s important to securely get rid of personal documents and electronics.

This event helps consumers protect themselves from identity theft, providing them an opportunity to properly dispose of their confidential documents and recycle their electronics correctly. Triangle residents can take advantage of complimentary document shredding, secure destruction of computers and hard drives, electric/electronics recycling and identity protection tips.

The event is an easy drive-thru experience – volunteers collect paper and devices to be destroyed or recycled without you having to leave your vehicle. People

can bring up to three boxes/bags of documents that have been removed from binders and up to five electric/electronic devices. Acceptable items include computers, cell phones, tablets, TVs, printers, fax machines, DVD/CD players, microwaves and toasters.Items that are not accepted include liquids, loose batteries, thermostats, light bulbs, refrigerators, paint cans and all speakers larger than 18 inches.

To date, the semi-annual “Secure Your ID” Day events have safely destroyed over 510,000 lbs. of sensitive documents and recycled over135,000 lbs. of electronics.
