Fireworks and other loud noises are a common cause of fear and anxiety in cats and dogs. According to the SPCA, the 5th of July is the busiest day of the year for most shelters.

Common reactions dogs have to loud noises include:

Trembling

Whimpering

Panting

Constantly seeking your attention

Attempting to run away or escape from the noise

Tips to keep pets safety July 4th.

*Get your pets inside well before it gets dark. Even outdoor cats should be brought inside for the night.

*Close up your house – scared animals are great escape artists and will find a way out.

*Leave the TV or radio on for background noise to lessen the startling boom of fireworks.

*Make sure your animals are wearing ID tags, and if they’re micro-chipped make sure the information is up to date.

*You may find it necessary to use medication or a thundershirt to calm your dog during the fireworks

*If you do lose your pet call your local shelter.
