The Wake County District Attorney has announced that charges will not be filed against the Raleigh police officer who shot and killed Akiel Denkins last February. The state investigation concluded that Officer Twiddy shot Denkins in self-defense after a struggle.

The Wake County D.A. said in a statement:

“Based on all the evidence available, it is the conclusion of the District Attorney that Officer Twiddy shot Mr. Denkins in self-defense and as a matter of last resort and only because he reasonably believed his own life was in danger. No criminal charges in this matter are warranted based on the evidence available.”
