Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane issued a statement today regarding the death of Akiel Denkins. Denkins was shot and killed by Raleigh police yesterday as he ran away from them, according to reports. Police have said they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant to the victim.
Bystanders have indicated that Denkins ran from police and jumped a fence when five to seven shots rang out, killing Denkins. Police have said that a gun was found in close proximity to the victim’s body.
